NHPC Ltd. OFS Opens for Retail Investors; Government Divests 6% Stake at ?71 Floor Price

The Government of India (GoI) has opened its Offer for Sale (OFS) in NHPC Limited to retail investors today, June 3, 2026, after institutional investors had subscribed to the base issue 3.47 times on the first day of bidding. The strong response prompted the government to exercise the entire oversubscription (green shoe) option.

The government is selling up to a 6% stake (up to 60.27 crore equity shares) in NHPC Limited through the OFS route, a mechanism that allows promoters of listed companies to divest shares directly through stock exchanges. The OFS opened for non-retail investors on June 2, 2026, and for retail investors and eligible employees on June 3, 2026. The floor price has been fixed at ?71 per share.

The President of India, acting through the Ministry of Power, initially offered 30.13 crore equity shares, representing a 3% stake in NHPC, with an option to sell an additional 3% stake under the oversubscription arrangement. Following the oversubscription, the government exercised the option in full, increasing the total offer size to 60.27 crore shares, equivalent to 6% of the company's paid-up equity capital.

Additionally, up to 45.20 lakh shares have been reserved for eligible NHPC employees, who can apply for up to ?5 lakh worth of shares.
